Anet has developers employed still, so they are working on something. Might as well call it GW2, so it at least exists as an internal project in whatever form they have brought it to this far.

Diluting Aion's buzz with GW2 doesn't seem like good practice when there will be plenty of time between releases. I personally think 2009 is going to be NCSoft's year, as they'll be part of the marketing of two highly anticipated games.
From reading forums and listening to players in games you start to understand how truly in need the genre is of something new that's really good, and run well. Aion and GW2 should really help that.

I think this is one of the two main reasons we haven't seen anything.
The second reason has multiple parts: AoC, WAR, Tabula Rasa, Hellgate:London. All hyped huge, all pressured to release because of pressure from above, all sold huge the first month, then dropped after people saw they were betas released as finished games. Anet and NC Soft know that, as soon as they release one screenie, the hype machine begins. Blizzard has WoW. They can afford to release stuff from a game that won't come out for years. Especially after the death of first AA, then TR, The one game they can point to as a success, especially in active community, is Guild Wars. Its successor is going to be handled with kid gloves. They won't be caving in, if they're smart, to a bunch of Polyannas yelling for "MOAR SKR33NZ NAO!1!!!1!" We'll probably see something in the fall, then get the beta the winter of 2008/2009.
As for the vaporware retards...yeah, they created NCWest and put Anet guys in power positions to create vaporware. Good call.
edit: meant 2009/2010. And Abedeus, since you troll every GW2 forum shouting VAPORWARE, you should know about trolling.

Winter of 2008/2009 ends in a month and a half. More or less.
Also, NCSoft has very successful CoX and Lineage games. GW is... medium success.
The only reason GW has an "active community" is lack of monthly payments.
We are not asking for more screens. We are asking for any signs of development or anything.
It's not like we got anything since GW2 was announced. You do realise that if A.Net don't release ANYTHING, people will just forget about GW? You might get some fanatic fans that will remember, but they probably have 4 accounts of GW1 with all chapters and upgrades.
Also, congratulate you two for successfully trolling by calling people idiots and retards.

The DNF guys have bolsted their time wasting with numerous spin-off games, Prey, etc. What the heck else do you think Anet has on their plate? Who is going to pay their employees to sit around and do nothing? It may be several years in the pipeline, there may be some catastrophe and the thing is cancelled, but it's idiotic to claim that it doesn't exist.

They are making it better they have a lot of competition and if they release anything competitors will race to capitalize on it. So tight lipped is the approach taken. I agree a few screen shots, art concepts, mini movie, release dates, or basic game specs would be awesome. But I am afraid in the software business they have a lot of competitors that are eyeing them. To blast the gaming community off there feet with something new and astounding… tight lipped till it goes “gold” is how it needs to be.

Me thinks someone need to look-up what vaporware means before calling people idiots.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product. The term implies unwarranted optimism .... it may imply that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility."
Does no one remember Gaile's beta in 08 statement right after PCGamers announcement. Well it 09 and no screenshots or news or anything, this alone makes it vaporware because it failed to meet that benchmark. Hell even Izzy in his interview didn't mention gw2, just "future products". Remember vaporware does finally get produced, but it products that are over hyped and then fall silent when delays happen. Announcing a beta when the game probably had few to none code written for it was probably very overambitious.
Of course it was probably just to hype GW:EN indirectly because only way to transfer achievements to this developers pipe dream was to buy this rushed, copy pasted, short, generally lower quality product.

This is exactly what I did when I first heard the term here (I knew what it was but wanted to make sure, e-terminology is so vague and obscure) and I was sure someone would invoke this "category" of the term. Can you give us the exact reference of Gaile's words, possibly with link? Since when does Izzy, balancer on GW1, needs to mention GW2? How could you possibly know that they had no code when they announced it? You never, ever, ever start with the code in a computing project!
You're projecting your expectations on the situation, they need to do nothing, sales will speak for themselves. As said above, Anet and NCsoft are very wisely keeping the golden egg under fierce protection, on absolutely all aspects whatsoever. It's not over-hyped, it's under-hyped, they're letting people forget about it by not saying anything (may be to try to compensate for their mistake of talking about it too early and taking the risk of loosing people, those without the patience or too angry about this). I think it's legitimate to criticise Anet for its lack of work on GW1, although we have the product we bought, or that they released the PCGamer info too early (I'm in the middle of re-reading it atm), but it's non-sense to call it vaporware, whatever meaning you want to stick on the word.
This impatience is becoming crazier every month. People need to calm down and NOT analyse this at the light of Activision Blizzard's action. Anet fully well know they're fighting in a big arena dominated by the Mammoth, even if they're not really given their different game models/businesses. Take a break, or another one, forget about GW1 for a year, then come back. But stop seeing ghosts where there's only a shadow, or even devising some weird gamig philosophy on the difference between ghosts and shadows because of the DNF fiasco.
Sorry for the rant.

Guild Wars 2 IS coming out. ArenaNet is working on it as we speak. There is no "may" come out, it is coming. Only conspiracy theorists would say otherwise.

Pics or didn't happen.
Same thing can be told about DNF. Really. The only difference between those games is genre... Well, and DNF's age and how long they have been fooling people.

Taking breaks from GW won't change the fact that there is no info about GW2. No. Info. You are the one seeing a game based on some "plot" info.

Info is pretty much unrealiable. The only way a game stops being a vaporware is when it gets a reliable date people can predict, screenshots or a gameplay.
Even Duke Nukem had screenshots...

Understand it is a source of a source, but i think we can trust Inde to quote it correctly. I could also quote Gailes infamous new yours resolution for 08. That also could be viewed to support the vaporware claim.
I've never said it was not going to come out, but it is a possibility with NCsoft bleeding from TR. Mainly I'm arguing that gw2 was over hyped vaporware used to sell more copies of GW:EN.
And Over-hyped is a 11 page spread on PCgamer of concept game. Include an ingame video of GW:EN that made sure to show off the HoM and mention how it will used for gw2. And now we have silence post GW:EN release.

There are infos, not the ones you are looking for, which means you need to stop looking for them and start taking a break which may help. I'm not "seeing" anything, I simply have an opinion. You don't trust Regina on this (she never said GW2 will happen, she said she saw the prototype), I do.

If you take a break, as in forgetting about Guild Wars for 1 year, you won't get Guild Wars 2 info anyway. Go out and do something instead of playing a game you've overplayed. No game lasts forever. I bet if you took a break from this moment, and not read anything about GW1 AND GW2 you'd come back to some information. But of course that is speculation.
I can wait for GW2 info personally. I want them to blow me away. I'm also not bored of GW1 yet, I wanna wear it out and make GW2 look like a godsend.
